Multidisciplinary research on children’s nutrition in flood-affected areas primed for implementation

Professors Pedro Alviola IV of the School of Management (SOM) and Juma Novie Alviola of the Department of Food Science and Chemistry (DFSC) contributed to the multidisciplinary character of the research on children’s nutrition that is ready for implementation by UP Mindanao upon funding approval by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD).

In the meeting with SOM faculty, led by Dean Aurelia Luzviminda Gomez, DFSC Prof. Alviola, and the DOST-PCHRD team led by Senior Science Research Specialist Marianne Joy Laya on December 6, 2024, in UP Mindanao, the participants agreed to endorse the project’s memorandum of agreement to their respective legal officers and heads of agencies for approval.

The research proposal, titled “Assessment of Nutrition and Development of Appropriate Food Product Intervention among Children in Flood-prone and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas in Davao de Oro Province, Philippines,” was approved by the PCHRD executive director on June 27, 2023.
