Creation of the UP Alumni Association in Davao City which paved the way to the struggle for a UP presence in Mindanao in the years to come.

Establishment of the UP Summer School offering extension courses in law, business administration, and education in Davao City

The clamor of the previous decades triumphed with the Republic Act 7889, “An Act Creating the University of the Philippines Mindanao” signed by President Fidel V. Ramos. The same year, Dr. Rogelio V. Cuyno was appointed dean of UP Mindanao

Establishment of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Science and Mathematics.

The UP sablay finally makes its appearance in Mindanao for the University’s First Commencement Exercises with thirty-three graduates composed of masters and diploma students.

UP Mindanao celebrates its commencement of the pioneering batch of undergraduates.

UP Mindanao was established in 1995 as one of the constituent universities of the University of the Philippines System. It was created to address the need for quality higher education in Mindanao, and to contribute to the development of the region through research and innovation. Since then, UP Mindanao has grown into a leading institution of higher education, providing high-quality academic programs, cutting-edge research, and community engagement that serve the needs of Mindanao and the country as a whole.
