New UPMin personnel attracted to Coop membership

The UP Madayaw Multi-Purpose Cooperative Inc., the cooperative of UP Mindanao personnel, attracted 18 new personnel who attended its Pre-Membership Orientation, held online on November 11, 2024. The prospective members represented a cross-section of the University personnel, including tenured academic staff and newly hired contractual personnel.

Incumbent chairperson Michael Gatela welcomed the prospective members and delivered motivation for membership in the UPMMPC, which is registered under the Cooperative Development Authority.  Associate Professor Jackie Lou Tagubase gave an overview of the UPMMPCI, including the roles and responsibilities of members. Former chairperson and co-founder Lynda Buenobra shared the highlights of the coop’s history, from its small beginnings to its present size. The UPMMPC was created in 1995 and, since then, has grown to include almost all UP Mindanao personnel. The capital base has likewise increased, allowing more economic benefits such as loans and annual dividends for its members. At the end of the Orientation, the participants expressed their intention to continue their application for full membership.

The Pre-Membership Orientation was organized by the UPMMPC Education and Training Committee, which is composed of University Researcher Marilou Montiflor, Prof. Jackie Lou Tagubase, and Lavern Driz.
