UPMin, BARMM-MBHTE sign MOA for Molecular Biology and BioInformatics education

University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Murao and Minister Mohagher Iqbal of the Bangsamoro Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education signed a memorandum agreement (MOA) to form a partnership based on mutual interests, developing solutions and strategies for improving basic and higher education in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) at the 2nd Bangsamoro Education Summit, held on November 29, 2024, in Davao City.

In the MOA, UP Mindanao, through the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) Mindanao and the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Mindanao, commits to organizing a webinar to raise awareness of molecular biology and bioinformatics among junior and senior high school teachers and faculty members from public and private higher education institutions in the BARMM. The Philippine Genome Center Mindanao will also provide the Molecular Biology Camp, a five-day hands-on training program on molecular biology and bioinformatics. The Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Mindanao will provide the Camp trainees with transportation, accommodations, and meals throughout the training periods.

The initiative is supported by both the BARMM MBHTE basic and higher education divisions to ensure the availability of quality, accessible, and inclusive education for all Bangsamoro and contribute to the shared prosperity and peace-building in the Bangsamoro Region.
